Yeah, with a guarded tool that you are holding, gloves are safe. If you're putting your hand near the rotating part, you're doing it wrong. It is shit like lathes, drill presses and bench grinders that you don't want to wear gloves with. With those you are holding the work piece or a tool and moving your hands near the rotating parts.
